Pattern Play – Lee W. Robinson

Immediately setting the tone for pattern play is the foyer decorated by Kentucky-based designer Lee W. Robinson. Here, bluegrass meets coastal serenity. Large-scale horizontal stripes in the hues of the Hamptons coastline set the palette, while fabrics and accessories give an unequivocal nod to Kentucky’s equestrian influence. A framed Hermés scarf hangs as art over the stairwell. An upholstered bench with equine legs adds whimsy. Says Robinson of his studied mix, “All of these elements allow one to transition from those things steeped in tradition to those associated with the insouciant life of the Hamptons.”

The Art of Refinement – Lee W. Robinson

Perhaps you read his contemplation on the similarities between perfume and paint in The Wall Street Journal. Maybe you admired the room he designed for the Evelyn Lauder Showhouse on Fifth Avenue in New York featured in Traditional Home. Certainly you coveted his hospitality if you read about the four days of Derby festivities at his home, Malvern House, in last month’s issue of Town & Country. It seems everyone wants a slice of the Lee W. Robinson lifestyle these days.

“Malachite” Wallpaper from Fornasetti for Cole & Son (leejofa.com) draws every eye into Lee W. Robinson’s Chinese New Year room in the 2012 Holiday House Designer Showcase.  “Malachite worked perfectly with pops of red coral to achieve a look that is cozy yet opulent,” says Robinson. A custom bar with a dragon motif complements the barrel-vaulted ceiling.
